Ryhmäteatteri: The Overcoat - a comedy of working life

Ryhmateatteri

Esa Leskinen and Sami Keski-Vähälä THE OVERCOAT A comedy of working life Adapted by Catherine Grosvenor Directed by Aleksis Meaney In roles: Billy Mack, Sarah McCardie, Hazel Ann Crawford, Tom Freeman, Simon Macallum and Karen Fishwick The first public performance of The Overcoat (Päällystakki) was on February 2009 at Ryhmäteatteri in Helsinki. At Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011 Ryhmäteatteri presented a scottish adaption of The Overcoat. Just like the original finnish version the scottish festival version was a real smash hit too. The Times and The Herald gave four stars, The Scotsman and British Theatre Guide five. Billy Mack won best actor award for The Overcoat. Akaky McAkaky -- a sympathetic, but inconspicuous bank clerk -- finds himself in financial dire straits and decides that the key to his own personal happiness would be a brand new overcoat. This fateful decision sends Akaky on an incredible and often hilarious journey through the jungle of modern work life and the ever-stranger twists and turns of the global economy, all the way to the very fundamental questions of his existence.
