Alan01

CrucibleStudio

Alan Turing (1912-1954) was a wartime code-breaker and pioneer of computer science. Besides his achievements, his sexual orientation lead to prosecution, probation and chemical castration. Alan died after eating an apple laced with cyanide. The second edition of the Alan01 installation engages the user in a dialogue with a fictional Alan, as if his consciousness had been coded into a machine at the time of his death. A dial-a-symbol interface sends a message light to two units. One unit plays videos and animations on 3D sculptures of the actor portraying Alan Turing. The second unit anchors the received message to historical facts about Turings life. The installation can be next seen in MOA 2010 (http://www.mastersofarts.fi/) in Helsinki 12th of May - 13th June 2010. For more information, go to: http://crucible.mlog.taik.fi/productions/alan01/
