North Karelia going towards oil free and carbon neutral future. The city of Joensuu has started a housing construction project in the Penttilänranta area. It will serve as an example of environmentally friendly area by testing energy saving technologies and eco-friendly innovations. One of the implemented actions is intelligent LED streetlights with motion sensors for a walkway. Lumine Lighting solutions (http://www.lumine.fi/en/) installed the lighting system. Electricity consumption has reduced roughly by 70%.
