Fingrid was established in 1996 at the same time as the electricity market was opened in Finland. Since then the production and distribution of electricity have been two separate businesses. The video was originally published as part of the Fingrid Oyj Annual Report 2013. The report is available in Finnish and English on the company's website at http://annualreport.fingrid.fi, and can be printed out as a PDF file. Fingrid Oyj takes care of the functioning of the nation-wide high-voltage grid, the backbone of electricity transmission. We transmit electricity continuously from electricity generating companies to distribution network companies and industrial companies. We take care of the cross-border connections and promote the functioning of the electricity market. Fingrid makes sure that Finland obtains electricity without disturbances.
