Puolustusvoimat - Försvarsmakten - The Finnish Defence Forces

A number of functions keep the wheels of secure daily life turning. These include, for example, a well-functioning judicial system, sufficient border surveillance, smooth traffic and a clean living environment. However, these functions must keep working also through times of crisis. The Security Committee is a permanent and broad-based co-operation body working to uphold comprehensive security and the functioning of the Finnish society at all times. This video demonstrates what is meant by comprehensive security in Finland, and it displays the functions vital to society. Through co-operation between actors in government, business life, and the civil society it is guaranteed that necessary tasks will be performed and, at the same time, it is possible to avoid overlapping and cut down expenses incurred. That way the resources of the central actors of the society can me mobilized when something goes wrong. This is the basic tenet of the comprehensive security approach. Through it, we can uphold the basic functions of society, promote the well-being and security of our citizens, and protect Finland’s sovereignty. Placed at the Finnish Ministry of Defense, the Security Committee is tasked to assist the Finnish Government. In addition to working for proactive preparedness, it acts as a specialist body should incidents or emergencies occur. http://www.turvallisuuskomitea.fi/index.php/en/
