Thermal energy storage for district heating network in Lappeenranta

A new type of energy storage is installed to the district heating network of Mustola, Lappeenranta. The network, where the battery will be connected is today operated by 10 MW natural gas and light fuel oil. The objective of this action is to reduce emissions and costs in the heat production for buildings. The storage technology is based on the phase conversion of salts. With this solution the storage capacity is very high. Solution means also lower costs and a smaller solution compared to conventional heat storage solutions.
