Toriparkki energy system and world's largest solar thermal energy storage

The world´s largest solar thermal energy storage will be built underneath the market square of Turku, in connection to the new 600-cars underground parking, Turun Toriparkki. During the first years in use, the ice-melting will be assisted by local district heating of Turku Energia. District heating also functions as the back-up heating system of Toriparkki. Innovative planning combines solar energy, district heating, geothermal energy and underground thermal energy storing.
