As Ukrainian soldiers returned in their tanks to the eastern region of Sumy, locals came out and waved to greet them. A senior US defence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, on Monday said Russian forces were making little forward progress. The official said Russia appeared to be de-emphasising ground operations near Kyiv and concentrating on the Donbas. The conflict has caused mass destruction and devastation across the town, leaving buildings, hospitals and train stations in ruins. In the past few days, Ukrainian troops have continued to push Russian forces back in a number of towns and cities across Ukraine. Since then, Russian forces have retreated, causing them to abandon or destroy their tanks, weapons and artillery. Ukraines Emergency Services have been tasked with collecting the dozens of ammunition boxes left across the town. Locals have struggled to find food, water and humanitarian aid following Russia’s invasion, as the conflict has destroyed many of their supplies.
