The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä undertakes internationally high quality societally significant and ethically sustainable research and education in the human sciences. It offers a unique combination of Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines, innovative study programmes and multidisciplinary research and education in cultural studies and the arts, history, languages and communication as well as social sciences and philosophy. Researchers of the faculty are desired partners locally, nationally and internationally and their expertise is widely utilized in various development projects as well as in solving complex societal problems. Research questions include societial change, equal participation, identities, culture, digitalization, multilingualism, crises, ageing and care in wide range of contexts and across lifespan. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is one of the top three universities in Finland in its fields and number one in open access publication. Finland's expertise in education and training, is world-leading and the faculty has a major role in subject teacher training in several disciplines. Core research areas of the faculty: Societal and cultural change processes, Multilingualism and multiliteracies, Wellbeing and care. 420 staff, 4000 students (year 2020)
