University of the Arts Helsinki - Sibelius Academy presents: Juho Valjakka, Jazz Piano - Bachelor's Degree concert The concept of eschewing definitions and its potential for creativity, beauty and growth has fascinated Juho Valjakka as an artist for a long time. Valjakka and his trio reflect on their experiences and observations of the world through music and abstract means. In the concert, the trio will perform both Valjakka’s own compositions as well as jazz standards. The ensemble’s approach to the music pieces is characterised by storytelling and musical playfulness. The trio engages in a dialogue with the long tradition established by legendary jazz piano trios and creates their own version of it, while at the same, Valjakka also incorporates his personal influences from Western classical music and from the piano music tradition.
