Indisciplinary Symphony: Part 5: Wagon inside Locomotive – Landscapes through the Window

Train method: moving landscapes in several wagons and displaced locomotive Wagon Inside Locomotive – Landscapes through the Window interventio tarkastelee Kyproksen nykyistä poliittista tilannetta, ja turkkilaisten laitonta miehitystä vuodesta 1974, jolloin he tunkeutuivat maahan. Nicolina Stylianou palaa lapsuuteensa ja kuvailee, kuinka ikkunasta avautuva näkymä on antanut muodon hänen omalle vastustamisensa ja vapauden tarpeelleen. Hän löytää itsensä kahden vastakkaisten kuvien välistä – toisella puolella Turkin lippu Pentadaktylos vuorella ehdottaa vapauden hylkäämistä ja toisella puolella Ayios Dometioksen hevoset ehdottavat vapauden luonnollista voimaa. Stylianousin teoksista ”Serpent and lily” (2018) ja ”Dithyramb” (2017-2019) tulee vastustamisen vallankumouksellisia välineitä. Ne nostavat esiin menetettyjen elämien, raiskausten, kulttuuriperinnön tuhoamisen ja trauman. Niistä tulee muistamisen tapahtumia jotka ilmaisevat halun vapauttaa maa kaikista alistamisen, miehittämisen, vallan väärinkäytösten ja kansallisten lakien rikkomista. Stylianoun runollisessa kerronnassa katsoja aistii sisäisen halun vapautuneeseen henkeen, joka liikkuu elämän, aineen, raakalaisuuden sekä ihmisten epäoikeudenmukaisen valtiollisen kohtelun ja ihmisoikeuksien rikkomisen tuolla puolen. PhD in One Night -kollektiivi, opiskelijat/ taiteilija-opettajat Indisciplinary Symphony -kurssilla (2019) Dada, Law, Rancière” -sessiota varten suunniteltu interventio osana seminaaria, Helsingin yliopiston, Aalto-yliopiston ja Taideyliopiston yhteistyö PhD in One Night -kollektiivin kanssa, touko- ja kesäkuu 2020. *** The ‘Wagon Inside Locomotive –: Landscapes through the Window through the window’s landscape’ intervention, considers the current political situation at in the Republic of Cyprus, and the illegal occupation by the Turkish troops resulted from since the Turkish invasion in 1974.  Nicolina Stylianou, re-visits her childhood and describes how the view from her window shapes her personal urgency for resistance and freedom.  She finds herself in an image, where the two opposing figures, on one hand of the Turkish flag on the Pentadaktylos mountain, suggesting the abolishment of freedom’s landscape and on the other the horses in in Ayios Dometios, suggest in one hand the abolishment of freedom, and on the other thesuggesting freedom’s natural force.  InAt this journey, Stylianou’s works ‘Serpent and Lily’ (2018) and ‘Dithyramb’ (2017-2019) become the revolutionary instruments of resistance and bring into focus an the act of remembrance of the liveslife lostses, the rapes, the violations of the cultural heritage, the trauma, and the will to emancipate the land from any form of repression, occupation, abuse of power, and transgression of the national laws.  Through In Stylianou’s poetic narration, one can senses the poetic movement towards the an inner desire for a liberated spirit that moves beyond life, matter, and the cruel and unjust governmental treatment of such governments to the people and as well as violations of human rights.
