MUU Kaapeli - Johanna Väisänen

MUUgalleria

Johanna Väisänen: Via somnia - - installations 20.5. -15.7.2016, MUU Cable Mounted inside the frame of an Austin Mini, the media installation depicts a drive through Italian countryside from Mazzano Romano to Trevignano. The other piece, Desiderio, is a video projection on the hood of the car. A parodic depiction of longing for faraway places, it features old 8mm movies from Italy projected onto the side of a snow-covered minivan in deepest Finnish winter. Artist Johanna Väisänen (b. 1972, Pyhäselkä) lives and works in Kuopio. She studied Russian language and literature at the University of Helsinki. Since 2002 she has exhibited in solo and group shows in Finland and internationally. In her works Väisänen explores memory, looking at the dynamics between the past and the present from a variety of perspectives. She works with video, photography, sound, drawing and painting as well as installations that integrate them all as components. Her installations make use of recycled materials. In recent years Väisänen has focused on making videos and media installations that pose internal questions and establish miniature climates about this age in relation to the past. The exhibition was supported by Arts Promotion Centre Finland and Arts Promotion Centre Finland Arts Council of North Savo. muugalleria@muu.fi, www.muu.fi
