Maija Närhinen: 56 824 25 September – 25 October 2015, MUU Gallery I cannot tell how many components there are in my works. What I can tell is the number of works in the exhibition (2). I can tell the dimensions of my works (width 340 cm, depth 340 cm and height 5 cm, plus diameter of one work, 300 cm). I can tell the material (computer prints made with an Epson 3880 printer on 80g paper using nine colours, consisting of printed images scanned from various sources). I can tell the date of completion of the works (2015). I can tell the scale (1:1 in River, 50:1 in Flower. In the first piece, the surface of the water is made of map symbols for rivers. In the other, individual pictures of flowers are combined to create one large flower.) The works are made of components – pictures – the number of which I can only suggest. Could there be 56,824 component parts? What about vision – how many images do we see in a day, in an hour, in ten minutes? Are we able to choose the right one from among those images?
