Band of Weeds Life As We Know It 2016 , 5”02 min, HD PAL, 16:9 “Life As We Know It“ is the first demo song published by the Band of Weeds, which was founded by Common Wormwood (Artemisia vulgaris), Dooryard Dock (Rumex longifolius) and Creeping Thistle (Cirsium arvense) in 2015. They have given us all from their ionic souls and inner liquids to take us into the deeper realm of the plants – the sound and essence of the Otherness and beyond. The band got its inspiration from Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys, and it wants to note the following parallels between these two stratospheric bands and their orbital realm of sounds. Band of Gypses 1) The slave trade flourished from Africa to Amerca in the 17th – 18th centuries. The blacks were needed as slave workforce in the plantations. The Afroamericans are descendants of the slaves. 2) The last album released by Jimi Hendrix was titled the Band of Gypsys. He didn’t make it with his original band Jimi Hendrix Experience, where he was only black musician. 3) A new band (and the album, too) got its name from Hendrix’s presentation in Woodstock, where he introduced his new band: “We are nothing but a band of gypsys”. 4) Band of Gypsys was a direction where Hendrix wanted to develop his music: returning back to the roots of black music and develop it with black musicians. 5) The members of the Band of Gypsys: Jimi Hendrix, vocal and guitar Billy Cox, bass Buddy Miles, drums Band of Weeds 1) Archaeophytes are plants, which arrived in ship cargos to Finland before the 17th century. They rooted in Finland and still flourish among us. 2) Band of Weeds is a plant band, where the plants represent the Otherness. Sounds are recorded directly form the plants using the method developed by Soviet biologist Ivan Gunar in in the 1960 – 79’s. 3) A weed is a plant considered undesirable in a particular situation, “a plant in the wrong place” by human being. Weeds are divided seed and root weeds depending their way of spreading. 4) All the members of the Band of Weeds are archaeophytes and classified as weeds in Finland. They are spread to all Finland from south to north and can be defined by human being as original, archeophytes or neophytes depending on the area, where they are growing. 5) The members of the Band of Weeds: - Common Wormwood, a weed and severe allergy causer - Dooryard Dock, an aggressive seed producer - Creeping Thistle, an invasive noxious weed
