Stigmí is a Greek word meaning the perfect moment of imaginary time, when past, present and future are happening all at the same time. Stigmí installation explores the movement between dimensions and layers of time. It presents the idea of a moment in which time doesn't exist anymore, but existence still continues. Therefore Stigmí questions linear time perception in our society. The idea for using minimalistic light in Stigmí originates from quantum physics. Scientists have noticed that during a quantum leap visual disturbance appears in the spectrum. The light elements of Stigmí depict this disturbance. The lighting designer Katja Muttilainen has been consulting questions conserning lights of Stigmí. The soundscape of Stigmí is created from the brain sounds of the artist, which were recorded during meditation sessions. The sounds were recorded together with the performance and media artist Marko Alastalo from Brainwave Music Lab. The Lab creates interactive cross-disciplinary performances that are based on the audience’s and the artist’s electrical brain impulses and other biophysical processes, which are made perceptible by using digital media. In the works of Brainwave Music Lab technology and bodily functions complement each other. Video by Paul Rohlfs.
